Burton YFC was started in 1985, by a group of ecumenical Church leaders responding to the perceived needs of young people within Burton upon Trent.

YFC is an international movement - working in over 120 countries, which launched in Britain in 1947. The vision is to respond appropriately in each local area, yet remain part of a movement committed to young people and their best interests.

Burton is one of around sixty five centres in Britain, taking the good news of Jesus Christ relevantly to the young people of this nation, under the overall leadership of Gavin Calver.

During that time, firstly under the leadership of Nick Pettingale and more recently Phil Pusey, Burton YFC has been committed to working in and alongside schools, churches and other youth related agencies to ensure each and every young person has the opportunity to maximise the potential of their unique life.

Projects have included 'drop-ins', youth events and celebrations, trips and camps, street work including the use of a bus kited out as a coffee bar, alongside the on-going commitments in schools and with churches, but the method has always been relational.

Burton YFC was also instrumental in the establishing of YFC in Ethiopia through Jim and Nestar Goode, and continue to support them in a variety of ways.  In 2005, Burton also set up a YFC centre covering the South Derbyshire area adjacent to us.  The links remain strong between the centres, with many opportunities to work together for the benefit of local young people.

YFC is currently expanding all around Britain as new local centres emerge in cities and towns responding to the needs of young people.

YFC is governed by a Board of Executive Trustees who meet on a monthly basis, overseeing the work of the Director and Senior Staff.

YFC also has a Council of Reference, made up of local church leaders from across the denominational spectrum, who receive quarterly reports on progress and ensure that YFC continues to do what it was intended to.
